Maybe you don’t believe it, but on the german side of the border to germany you speak standard german and as soon as you step on the swiss side you speak swiss german. if you move to switzerland you should learn standard german as a basic, but don’t perfect it too much, especially pronunciation.. Best answer: i studied german (german teacher) and she told us that swiss and austrian dialects are different from the spoken in germany even in germany there are dialects like plattdeutsch, etc. i think if you will be stationed only in switzerland then learn it with a german-swiss teacher (i think they are. A warning though my german friend couldn’t understand what the swiss germans spoke sometimes coz of the dialect being so different, so it really will help you if you actually learn the specific dialect of a language of that place..
